Tricyrtis 'Empress' (toad lily 'Empress') is a member of the Liliaceae family. This perennial exhibits a clump forming growth habit and is characterised by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy (very cold winter [-20 to -15ºc]) and is hardy throughout the UK and northern Europe, with many plants grown in containers becoming damaged unless given protection.
When fully mature, Tricyrtis 'Empress' can reach an ultimate height of 0.5–1 metres and a spread of 0.1–0.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers a north–facing, west–facing, or east–facing aspect and a sheltered position. It thrives best in loam or sand soil types and should be placed in full shade or partial shade.
