Davidia involucrata (handkerchief tree) is a member of the Nyssaceae family. This tree exhibits a spreading branched growth habit and is characterized by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – cold winter (-15 to -10ºc) – hardy through most of the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open or exposed sites or central / northerly locations. Many evergreens suffer foliage damage and plants in pots will be at increased risk.

When fully mature, Davidia involucrata can reach an ultimate height of Higher than 12 metres and a spread of Wider than 8 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing, north–facing, west–facing, east–facing aspect and sheltered exposure. It thrives best in chalk, clay, loam, sand soil types and should be placed in a full sun, partial shade position.
