Phillyrea angustifolia (narrow-leaved mock privet) is a member of the Oleaceae family. This topiary exhibits a bushy growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – cold winter (-15 to -10ºc) – hardy through most of the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open or exposed sites or central / northerly locations. Many evergreens suffer foliage damage and plants in pots will be at increased risk.
When fully mature, Phillyrea angustifolia can reach an ultimate height of 2.5–4 metres and a spread of 1.5–2.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing aspect and exposed, sheltered exposure. It thrives best in sand soil types and should be placed in a full sun, partial shade position.
