Carex elata 'Aurea' (Bowles's golden sedge) is a member of the Cyperaceae family. This grasse exhibits a tufted growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – very cold winter (-20 to -15ºc) and is hardy throughout the UK and northern Europe. Many plants grown in containers will be damaged unless given protection.

When fully mature, Carex elata 'Aurea' can reach an ultimate height of 0.5–1 metres and a spread of 0.1–0.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing or west–facing or east–facing aspect and exposed or sheltered positions. It thrives best in clay or loam soil types and should be placed in full sun or partial shade.
