Convallaria majalis (lily of the valley) is a member of the Asparagaceae family. This perennial exhibits a matforming growth habit and is characterized by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of very hardy (colder than -20ºc) and is hardy in the severest European continental climates including exposed upland locations in the UK. It features a flower fragrance.

When fully mature, Convallaria majalis can reach an ultimate height of 0.1–0.5 metres and a spread of 0.1–0.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers west–facing or east–facing or north–facing aspect and sheltered positions. It thrives best in clay or loam soil types and should be placed in full shade or partial shade.
