Thymus serpyllum Coccineus Group (thyme Coccineus Group) is a member of the Lamiaceae family. This culinary herb exhibits a matforming growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – cold winter (-15 to -10ºc) and is hardy through most of the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open or exposed sites or central / northerly locations. Many evergreens suffer foliage damage and plants in pots will be at increased risk.
When fully mature, Thymus serpyllum Coccineus Group can reach an ultimate height of 0.0–0.1 metres and a spread of 0.1–0.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers east–facing or south–facing aspect and exposed positions. It thrives best in chalk or loam or sand soil types and should be placed in full sun.
