Alnus glutinosa (common alder) is a member of the Betulaceae family. This trees exhibits a columnar upright growth habit and is characterized by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of H7 and no significant fragrance.

When fully mature, Alnus glutinosa can reach an ultimate height of Over 12 metres and a spread of 4–8 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers east–facing,south–facing,north–facing,west–facing aspect and exposed,sheltered exposure. It thrives best in chalk,clay,loam soil types and should be placed in a full sun position.
