Malus x robusta 'Red Sentinel' (crab apple 'Red Sentinel') is a member of the Rosaceae family. This tree is characterised by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy (very cold winter [-20 to -15ºc]) and is hardy throughout the UK and northern Europe, with many plants grown in containers becoming damaged unless given protection.
When fully mature, Malus x robusta 'Red Sentinel' can reach an ultimate height of 4–8 metres and a spread of 4–8 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers a north–facing, east–facing, south–facing, or west–facing aspect and an exposed or sheltered position. It thrives best in chalk, clay, loam, or sand soil types and should be placed in full sun or partial shade.
